Craig Newmark on not being super rich
I just listened to a podcast interview with Craig Newmark, founder of Craigslist. At one point, the interviewer asks Craig if he ever regretted not monetising Craigslist's traffic to make huge amounts of money (they are apparently the seventh most visited site on the web, but are also famous for only seeking to make a very modest amount of money from the business). Craig replies that he does sometimes have a twinge of regret when he sees that someone had put a year of work into a startup and walked away with $100 million, but then again he and his team know a lot of those guys, and they weren't any happier than anyone else. Craig added that he wouldn't know what to do with all that money, and anyhow, sometimes people with $100 million dollars start doing strange things with their hair, and he wouldn't want that to happen to him.
Priceless.
