An overheard fragment of conversation between two young American guys I passed on the street yesterday:

"...So I like introduced myself and I thought they'd greet me but they just didn't."

"You have to flirt with people here..."

Living the dream

John Merrells blogs an interview he recently gave on his experience of emigrating to the US. Interesting to read a Brit's experience of the States' national identity—it seems to hold a great deal of value for John. And even from my brief ten-day stay in Wiscosin last September, I can recognise much of the picture he paints of wide-open spaces, opportunities and—in some ways at least—minds.
